dark-weezing.livejournal.comSince the last episode of this year will be Haunted, I thought it appropriate to discuss an episode that gave so much hopes and dreams.
One from the vaults: From the moon behind the dark clouds, we get the tone of the piece. We see the moth larvae from "Date." Yet no name. But he was cute though.
And we see Robin staring at the three screens.
One was the docks from "Sisters."
The other two were the Mall and the bridge from "Forces of Nature."
Nice Cy/Robin moment. Missed that in Year One.
And Robin can't let go. He had to look at the mask.
I was looking for more...outstanding parapheila. But we see the mask. Sladebot's ray gun. I am curious about where he got the mask.
The first one was a robot. And that's in the Evidence Room.
Second one was rather damaged from Apprentice. The black part cracked off.
And that's it. The third melted. This is going to bother me.
But it looks the second one from the gash.
Nice Robin/Cy moment. He is the most vocal about Robin's obsession in the negative.
Then maybe Raven. If the series were maturer, then we wouldn't be tap dancing around death and the fact they never got the body.
And then comes the gong.
Return of the rage: We see Cinderblock out so soon. Apparently they were able to separate from Tertion. And so soon. Aftershock is what? A month ago their time?
Great fighting scenes. I swear Cy pulled a Blanka with those Thunder Punches. Robin was extra vicious. Obviously since Cinderblock is the public face of Slade.
Interesting Mewtwo site destruction blasts. Impressive.
And the mastermind shows up.
I was wondering how it was possible. And how were they're going to not tip their hand.
The treetops scenes were impressive. And the rain punctuated the effect.
Slade's words cut through Robin like a chainsaw. The master manipulator in action again.
Perlman, a pleasure as he gives this series credence.
Marvelous.
I agree: Robin has been growing soft. He could have easily dogded that thrown spike in "Crash." Thank God Raven was there to save him. But still.
Slade apparently now has an earth fetish. Terra, his underground base, the metaphors. All fits. To be honest, I thought he had a machine fetish. Moot point since he shifted gears. Pun not intended.
Considering the vanishing act Slade is known for, it's not a leap for him to do that.
You couldn't think the truth that early.
Interesting use of Raven's powers. An umbrella.
Beast Boy's cold tempered the seriousness. Didn't need it but it's fine. Too much here to care about it.
Cyborg again voicing his reaction. Skeptical. Oddly enough Raven believed that Slade would live. Surprising since she's the skeptic of the bunch.
Only Happy When It Rains: I didn't need the supposed R/S ness but that's fine, we saw Robin getting darker and darker.
To be honest, I like the rain look. More resembling his comic form.
The mini battle was marvelous. Rapid and so were the taunts.
Being it was dark, you can forgive for Starfire missing him but not for what was next.
His grabbing Starfire. I have never seen Dick this angry. Not even during Apprentice. And that was his most angriest. I was...shocked. It was perfect. Never seen him at full rage.
The Old Sights: We see the rotting remains of Slade's gear base.
And Slade slithers again.
And the dialogue. The best banter I've seen in a long time.
You can feel Robin's hatred.
And given the level of technology in the series, the cloaking tech is feasible.
I wished they used the Apprentice Pt 1 theme (Robin/Slade fight) but the music still haunts.
Amazing Slade is duplicating his moves from Apprentice.
And succeeded.
The hand twisting, the side swipe punch. And shows why you shouldn't use capes in the field.
The beatdown was the best I've ever seen. And you couldn't believe Robin could get beaten so.
BB's line was amusing, considering.
And Robin's obsessions are spilling like tsunamis. Menville was top of his game.
Surprised Star sideswiped him like that.
The next scene was a surprise. Strapped to the bed. Doesn't get any psycho thriller than that. And the Titans acted the only way they knew how. The mistrust is coming back. That's Slade.
My mind's eye: A scalpel. An electric scalpel but a scalpel.
I have no words.
Star's rage wasn't as perfunctory but still surprised coming from Miss Sunshine. She proves that later.
He flatlined. More and more building. And thrashed his room to boot. Non stop.
Interesting that the safeguard turned against them.
Should have an override. To be fair, they weren't supposed to be in one place anyway.
The next scene. Those who weren't sure, should be now.
This is Dick Grayson. The parents' death should be obvious.
And now let me say this clearly.
WAVE YOUR FREAK FLAG HIGH!!!
We now have a true blue Kyorge R/R moment!!!
The 3-D was fine actually. The following moments didn't make of consequence anyway.
And Raven explained the truth. From his head.
And worse, Slade is winning.
Awakening: The beatings intense, and Slade has him in his hands and the lights give away the truth.
An illusion.
Raven's empathy is shown here. Finally. They downplayed that quite a bit.
Slade's speech was perfect. The darkness, the obsessions. The misery.
And Robin figured it out. His obsession with Slade was born in darkness.
What better way to get rid of it than to bring it in the light?
Calling: At the end, it explained what happened. A chemical weapon. Perfectly executed. And Robin hopefully learns his lessons. It was the moral of Apprentice. He was able to resist Slade with them and it will repeat itself if Slade returns.
BB's cold offputted the mood but the ending.
The ending.
It seems Slade Wilson's animated story isn't done yet.
Reflections: Slade's return, and intelligently executed. It could have slipped up anytime but it didn't. And a bonefided R/R moment to boot. Truly the best.
Far better than Masks or anything I've seen in a series in a while. By far.
Best episode. Ever.
