We were discussing this at length at my R/R message board.
http://s8.invisionfree.com/forbiddenlove/index.php?showtopic=22Decided to bring this over here.
Something I've been noticing throughout the third season.
I've been noticing how Raven has been extra protective of Robin lately.
Let's see...
Using the car as a weapon and checking on him from Tertion's advances in "Aftershock Pt 2."
Saving him from the damaged pike in "Crash."
And of course, creating a mindmeld as to explain and help Robin for his aberrant behavior in "Haunted."
Now granted, Robin returned the favor:
He catches her in "Deception."
Notice how he was protective of her when she made the mindmeld.
His first to show concern for her in "Spellbound."
And cultivating to a protector in "The Beast Within."
Little events that might seem nothing but add them all up, it's a big deal.
Notice Raven seems to go out of her way to protect him. Granted, the others have powers as safeguards but even so, the implications of her actions makes it a bit obvious. More so now we have the mindmeld. Given how protective she is about her secrets, i.e. her mind and memories and having swapped with someone who is more or less the same, makes for a different type of trust. Commiseration, not even Garfield's juvenile concerns can compete with that. For those who believe the "they're merely teammates, so of course..." it's dashed. The mindmeld shatters all.
Perhaps it was an opportunity to know the truth about him, considering their lack of interaction of Years One and Two.
Robin has returned the favor in the Beast Within. The hospital room, he went against a raging beast with only his bo. Some call it crazy, others love, or payback for all the protection she's given him.
I know Robin is human and should be protected more but only Raven seems to have that ability to give him that. His best friend Cyborg can't do it. His girlfriend, can't seem to either or when she does...doesn't have that same grace that Raven has in each of her attempts.
Don't confuse this for love but a deep rooted concern and the fact that she is the only one who give this type of protection and willing to give more of herself to that goal. As shown by the mindmeld.
Her actions may betray her but...better for her (and us) that she did it at all.
Think about that.
