Love and Marriage, Take 2

For those who don't know, recently after the events of Infinite Crisis, Dick decided to propose to Barbara Gordon (our Silver Age Batgirl). This isn't Dick's first proposal (remember he proposed to Kory at the end of his stint with the Titans), plus with his own history with Babs, not to mention, what woman could tame Nightwing?

Let's go by this one by one.

1. Babs: The pair has always have a sexual flirting but it wasn't until No Man's Land and him recovering at her base that they finally acted on their feelings. Ultimately as No Man's Land ended, they went on until around War Games, where they broke it off as Dick had larger problems with Blockbuster and Tarantula, the end result of the breakup being Dick pushing himself too much and Barbara's belief that he was stuck in the past when it came to their relationship. The two remained close friends with instances of lingering romantic tension and now they are back together but given the touchiness of the past and the fact they've broken up before, what makes this go-around more solvent than last time?

2. Kory: In recent issues of Titans, Johns basically attempted to resurrect the Dick/Star angle with the future Batwoman saying that Kory has a wonderful future with Nightwing. Given into this, she left the Titans and joined the Outsiders and attempt to re-kindle the past. On Dick's end, going as far as spending a night with her after leaving the Outsiders (but that's another story). The current Robin has said that he believes there is still something between her and Dick (but not to them ironically).

Given her attempts to rebuild (not to mention the tryst), and the fact he is proposing to someone else (considering how she failed when he did it), how would she feel about it?

3. The Proposal: One of the low points of Dick's life is his impulsive wedding to Starfire to which he proposed after the events of Bane breaking Bruce's back and being in Batman's shadow as a quick fix solution to his and their problems, and given the recent trauma Dick has had with the destruction of Bludhaven (and his personal life prior), it's almost a repeat. Has Dick gotten over the issues of the past and ready to give his all?

4. The Commitment: While some men can commit to commitment and marriage makes men settle down and mellow, Dick's track record isn't the best with his past and can Barbara be strong enough to attempt to mellow him and combat his flawed coping? He should stop the super heroing but that isn't possible. If nothing else, he IS going in the right direction and trying to make the most of his life but given his flawed coping, it's a long shot. So will it last?

5. The Hypothetical: Babs is a curious choice given the range of his lovelife: the fantasical Starfire, the bohemian Huntress, the quirky Bridget Clancy (of course the first one is the only other one to be proposed to) but the fact is that many fans like the Dick/Babs pairing and since Dick/Raven will never happen (more so now anyway), this is a good proxy but if Babs isn't the girl for marriage for Dick, who should be? And don't say you.
